MentorNet is a mentoring service for science, technology, engineering and mathematics students, and also supports students in the health sciences. MentorNet combines the technological ease of social networking with the social science of mentoring. Our program serves students attending accredited US Universities with a verifiable .edu email address from freshman year through Ph.D. Our mentors are professionals with an associates degree or higher in STEM fields, and represent a wide variety of career paths.
Mentees and mentors create individual profiles on MentorNet’s platform in response to questions about themselves and about their desired match. After mentees and mentors are matched, the pair receives weekly topics called prompts to spark discussion. MentorNet’s prompts are designed to support mentees in their current level of education and focus on topics that support the success and persistence of STEM students. Mentees and mentors communicate by their method of choice, and report spending 15-20 minutes each week in active communication.
